THE HAGUE
_
A curated guide by MVDT Collection
Updated June 2026
The Hague has been part of my life for many years and remains a place I return to regularly. Living between Sicily and the Netherlands has given me a unique perspective on both destinations, and I often receive questions about my favourite places in the city. This guide is a collection of the cafés, restaurants, boutiques, museums, beaches and hidden gems I genuinely recommend. Rather than a list of tourist attractions, these are places I've come to know over the years and continue to visit whenever I'm back in The Hague. I hope this guide helps you experience the city through a local and personal perspective. This guide is regularly updated with new places I discover.
STORES
MOOFERS CLOTHING
Moofers is a beautifully curated boutique in The Hague, founded by designer Jennifer van Haastert. She designs her own timeless fashion label, known for its feminine silhouettes, quality craftsmanship and pieces made to be worn for years. Housed in a historic monumental building, the store brings together her own collection, jewelry and carefully selected art in a warm and inspiring setting. You'll also find a large selection of MVDT Collection here. Jennifer is often in the boutique herself and always gives you a warm welcome, making every visit feel personal. If you're in The Hague, it's definitely worth stopping by.

VINTAGE STORES
If you're looking for vintage, head to the Molenstraat. This charming street is home to several of The Hague's best vintage stores, including Episode and a number of other carefully curated shops, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon treasure hunting. Just a short walk away, you'll also find Nobel Store Vintage on the Nobelstraat. A fun fact: the owner once modelled for MVDT Collection. It's a great stop for unique vintage finds and timeless pieces.
UPTOWN | BARETTA
Uptown & Baretta is an independent fashion store on the charming Prinsenstraat in The Hague, known for its carefully selected brands and relaxed atmosphere. Originally focused on menswear, more and more women are shopping here too, especially for sneakers, accessories and timeless basics. Years ago I collaborated with Bart, one of the owners, while I was working in fashion. It's been great to see the store grow into the concept it is today.
COFFEE & BAKKERY
The Hague has a wonderful specialty coffee scene. Whether you're looking for the perfect flat white, artisanal pastries or a slow breakfast, these are my favourite places to pause and recharge.
POMPERNIKKEL
Pompernikkel is a neighbourhood bakery tucked away in a residential area of The Hague, just outside the city centre. It's the kind of place locals love for its artisanal sourdough bread, flaky croissants and homemade pastries. Everything is freshly baked with quality ingredients, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it well worth the short detour. A perfect spot for breakfast, coffee or to pick up something delicious for the rest of the day.
BARTINE
Bartine is another favourite of mine, located on the charming Piet Heinstraat, just a short walk from Moofers. Known for its excellent coffee, freshly baked bread and seasonal dishes, it's the perfect place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and full of locals, making it a lovely spot to take a break while exploring one of my favourite streets in The Hague.
SINGLE ESTATE
Single Estate is a specialty coffee bar on the lively Piet Heinstraat, just a short walk from Moofers. Known for its carefully sourced coffee and relaxed atmosphere, it's a great place to start your day or take a break while exploring the neighbourhood. Alongside excellent coffee, you'll find delicious pastries and simple breakfast and lunch options. A must-visit if you appreciate great coffee.
ICE CREAM
PIET
Piet is an artisanal ice cream shop with locations on both Piet Heinstraat and Prins Hendrikstraat in The Hague. Their gelato is made with high quality ingredients and changes with the seasons, offering both classic favourites and creative flavours. My personal favourite is the Cardemon & Safran flavor. The perfect stop for an ice cream while exploring these lively neighbourhoods.
FOOD
From neighbourhood favourites to destination restaurants, these are the places I recommend for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks. Some I've visited countless times, others are still high on my own list, but all come highly recommended.
NONNA
Nona on the Mauritskade brings the flavours of Sicily to The Hague through an intimate dining experience. Chef and owner Julia serves a seasonal Sicilian tasting menu, paired with carefully selected wines, in a small restaurant where every detail reflects her love for the island. I had the pleasure of meeting Julia in Sicily at a wedding, although I haven't had the chance to dine there myself yet. Everyone I know speaks very highly of the experience and the food. One tip: reserve well in advance. With only a handful of tables, it's one of the hardest reservations to get in The Hague. nonathehague.nl
FLORA
Flora is one of The Hague's newest hotspots, bringing together an independent cinema and a café restaurant under one roof. Located on the sixth floor of an iconic former telephone exchange, it offers stunning panoramic views over the city. For years, I looked out of my window at this beautiful building, standing empty. I'm so happy to see it brought back to life and transformed into such a vibrant place for the city. Whether you're stopping by for lunch, dinner, drinks or an arthouse film, Flora is the perfect place to spend a relaxed afternoon or evening. If you can, time your visit around sunset and enjoy the view from the terrace.
WALTER BENEDICT +2
I've known the owners for some years and have enjoyed watching their story grow. It all started with Walter Benedict in the heart of The Hague, followed by Franklin and, more recently, Bar Bowie in the Regentessekwartier. Walter Benedict is the perfect place to start your day with breakfast or enjoy a relaxed lunch or dinner. Franklin has a cosy neighbourhood feel and is just as lovely for a glass of wine and a few shared dishes as it is for dinner. Bar Bowie is their newest addition, bringing a French Mediterranean bistro atmosphere to the neighbourhood with great food, wines and a sunny terrace. Whichever one you choose, you'll find the same attention to detail, warm hospitality and love for good food.
NIKO
NIKO is one of my favourite places for Japanese food in The Hague. Located on the Veenkade, right by the water, it's surrounded by restaurants and bars that give the area a lively atmosphere. Whenever I'm back in The Hague, this is one of the places where I love to make a pit stop with friends. If you're looking for honest Japanese cuisine beyond sushi, NIKO is definitely worth a visit. Tip: Always ask the staff for their favourite dishes or the daily specials. They know exactly what not to miss.
NATURE & BEACH
One of the things I love most about The Hague is how easily the city blends into nature. Within minutes you'll find dunes, beaches and peaceful parks, perfect for slowing down.
MIJENDAL
If you're looking to escape the city for a while, Meijendel is one of the most beautiful nature areas near The Hague. With its rolling sand dunes, forests and walking trails, it's the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. I love coming here for a long walk, especially on the way to the beach. End your walk at beach pavilion Het Puntje, a relaxed place to enjoy lunch or a drink with a view of the sea. Don't expect anything fancy. It's all about the laid back atmosphere, sandy feet and simply enjoying the Dutch coast.
NATUREL
Strandclub Naturel is a laid back beach pavilion on the quieter Noorderstrand of Scheveningen, just beyond the busy Zwarte Pad. It's the perfect place to escape the crowds and slow down for a while. Come here for a relaxed lunch, dinner or a drink with your feet in the sand. During the summer, the atmosphere becomes even more lively with regular DJ evenings, making it a great spot from day into night.
Tip: Keep in mind that once the Zwarte Pad ends, you'll need to walk a little further along the beach to reach Naturel. It's not the easiest place to get to, but that's exactly what makes it feel a little more hidden.
ZUID
Beachclub Zuid is located on the beach of Duindorp, just south of Scheveningen, offering a more relaxed atmosphere away from the busiest part on the otherside. It's a lovely place to spend a few hours, whether you're stopping by for lunch, dinner or sunset drinks. Their wood fired pizzas are definitely worth trying, best enjoyed with a drink while looking out over the sea. Come for the view, stay for the laid back atmosphere and enjoy one of the best sunsets on the Dutch coast.
THE SHORE
The Shore is one of the best places in Scheveningen if you're looking to surf or simply soak up the surf culture. Located right on the beach, it's a relaxed spot where beginners and experienced surfers come together. Besides surf lessons and board rentals, The Shore has a cosy café serving good coffee, healthy lunches and homemade treats. Even if you don't surf, it's a great place to watch the waves, enjoy the laid back atmosphere and experience a different side of Scheveningen.
DE BOOTJES
De Bootjes is a hidden gem in the beautiful Westbroekpark in The Hague. You can rent a rowing boat or pedal boat and explore the peaceful waterways, or simply stay on the terrace and enjoy the idyllic surroundings. It's a lovely spot for coffee, lunch, drinks or an early dinner, surrounded by greenery and water. On a sunny day, it feels like you've escaped the city without ever leaving The Hague.
MUSEUMS
The Hague has plenty museums to offer. From Dutch Masters at the Mauritshuis and the iconic works of Escher in a former royal palace, to the impressive collection of modern art at Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Just outside the city, don't miss Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar. This privately founded museum is one of my personal recommendations, where contemporary art, architecture and nature come together beautifully. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend an entire afternoon wandering through the galleries and gardens. If you're combining a museum visit with the beach, Museum Beelden aan Zee is a wonderful stop. Dedicated entirely to sculpture, it's tucked away in the dunes of Scheveningen and perfectly pairs with a walk along the coast.
