After a few years working in Fashion, I quit my job and moved to Indonesia, Bali for 6 months. Three years (2010) before I discovered this beautiful island. On the backseat of our bike driving through the Island, I said to my sister; “If I start a business, I would like to do it here. The creativity, the lovely smiling people and the vibe is amazing.” The longing to start a business and living abroad was already there for many years. Only the step to do it was big and scary.

Two years later I sorted out some boxes and found ‘The Book’ of Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist. It was already there for a couple of years, but now it caught my eye and clearly ready to read it. I'm not a big reader at all. To fast distracted most of the time. You know that feeling that you read a page ten times and still not be able to remember what is on that page. Instead, this book got me, easy to read and a lovely story. Very good life lessons wrapped into a beautiful story about a shepherd following his dream.

And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.' - Paulo Coelho

When I closed the book, I knew what needed to be my next step. I didn’t have a partner, no kids, not owning a house, nothing attached me here accept my job, friends, and family. Job wise it wasn’t the perfect timing though, we were in the middle of a crisis, especially in retail. Across the table, my customers were sitting literally in bad weather. In front of my eyes it happened, they had so many golden years and now they struggled. This was a big eyeopener for me. I realized nothing is certain in life. To hold on to this job will not bring me any further to my dreams! I do it, I quit!

Said and done, at the end of October 2013, I left to Bali. Randomly, after three weeks I run into a workshop of jewelry making and decided to do a course of 20 lessons. I learned the art and craftsmanship of the locals. In between I sold already some pieces to people I met during that journey, that’s how I felt this had potential. The logo I designed at the beach, made packing, did a photoshoot and came back to The Netherlands. I had the best time of my life, felt free and created a brand.

Interested to read The Alchemist, this is the vision of Pharrell Williams and Oprah about the book.
